The first room we painted was the dining room. This was arguably the nicest room in the house thanks, weirdly, to mold remediation the sellers completed for the almost-buyers who ended up walking away from the sale six months earlier. The crown molding and wainscotting were beautiful, but the red paint was way too red. I felt really anxious and on edge in there — basically the complete opposite feeling I dreamed of evoking during big family dinners.
Since we only had to paint about half of each wall, we figured we could get this room done first and use it to be a staging area when we started to move our furniture and boxes into the house. That plan worked out pretty well!
This photo from Pinterest is kind of my inspiration for how I hope the room ultimately looks.
We never had a formal dining room in our old house, so we don’t have a dining table/chairs yet. The room just has our beloved hutch right now. All that empty space came in handy, though, when we celebrated Kate’s second birthday and set up our cake and favor table in there.
